I had an interresting discussion with adrian about Mac mini, OS X vs windows, iphone vs other phones, and it actually reminded me that i was gonna get a new phone this march (the subscription ends then so when we extend it we can get a new phone cheaper or for free). I've looked around a bit but I have no idea which to choose. As I'm often on the web with my phone it has to be a smartphone, but which?! I don't quite like the new touchy screens but when u look at the alternatives it leaves no options.. Only some with a physical qwerty keyboard, which I tried today and is totally crap. Far too small keys to operate properly in a bus (or to make it work the backspace key should have been enlarged like three times). So a touchscreen smarthphone. If I hear all the stories of those phones often refusing to notice ure sliding on the screen, and the only thing working is the iphone, it would leave me with the iphone as only option. BUT the subscription is from my father, so I can't choose the provider. Afaik T-mobile (or anything but not our provider) is the only operator allowwed to sell or have the phone on its network (or has that changed lately? not sure). But our provider is not t-mobile so that isn't an option too.. as you understand by now i might need some help from ppl with more experience So tell me, which phones or brands would you advice for a heavy inet user?

Hey Man! Amazing! I'm in the same situation actualy.. my subscription stop in april and i'm curently looking for a good cellphone... Well, the iphone is a very good product... but... even if apple make good stuff, i'd like to have another solution... Iphone has a very bad Picture/video quality, is a very "closed system" (i mean compatibilty with other's format, it has to be used with "aplle products" mainly), and is also very expensive... But looking other possiblitys..... pff... maybe the HTC Hero seems to be a very nice one, working with Android (which is the best os with apple's one / Windows 6.1 suxx, need too much power ofc lol, and symbian looks like a beta version lool) It might be the only serious alternative to the iphone... What do u think Guys??? I was also about to ask u... as i know teenagers are aware of that kind of things loool

Me aware of those things.. Nah not that much I follow the news but you can't say anything about it if u've not had it in ur hands. Some weird thing that is with phones, you almost can't tell in advance if ure gonna like it.

Hey RMF,
my favorite is the HTC Magic -Android.
I use this and i used the iphone. But the Android system is much better. And it is easyer to hack w-lan, bluetooth and the i-net is faster. I use it sometimes like a modem. I switch it on my pc and connect via pc to i-net.
And it is easyer to hack APPs on Android. ;-)
But it is my answer: -)
HTC Magic is the Iphone killer....
Regards Christian

chris, with a jailbroken iphone you have cydia(Themes, Games, programs (like browser, sbsetting ..) and appcake/installous (hacked app store) i install hacked Navigon or TomTom in 10 minutes on my phone, but i dont do this, i have a navi in my car :-) i must say, i never saw a better phone than a jailbroken iphone.. you said the internet was faster.. what was faster? the connection, the cpu? mh.. you test a iphone 3g oder 3gs? here is a nice website :-) Iphone 3GS vs Palm Pre vs Nokia N97 vs Toshiba TGo1 vs HTC Magic -> http://www.techdigest.tv/2009/06/im_out_of_contr.html <- regards adrian

I watched a vid about the HTC magic, and read some reviews. It seems it would be a nice choice. Though just a little bit far too expensive And I don't know if we can get that one with the subscription (not sure how it works, limited which phones or so..)

Hey Adrian, I tested the 3g I said it is my favorite ... My i-net is faster on the Adroid ( hacked ) And I use "CoPilot Live 8" (Navigation) on my HTC Magic... I think it is better than my external NAVIGON Andrian, I know the Iphone is a great phone, but for my uses are the Google Phone (HTC Magic) better Here is a LINK to get cheap MobilePhones http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?SearchText=htc+magic&Country=&IndexArea=product_en&ssk=yThere You get cheap IPhones, too Regards Christian

If I were you, I would prepare iPhone. The fact that iPhone has interesting application to be viewed. However, it is really expensive and if could not afford, go for the alternatives phone.
